In Microsoft Word 2019, how does one enable text wrap in a Comments box?

When reviewing a document, one can insert a Comment referencing some area of the text. The Comment appears in a separate right margin.

The Comment text, if more than a couple dozen characters, goes off the page and remains a single line. Hovering over it with the cursor reveals the hidden portion of the text, as well as clicking on an arrow icon at the right side of the visible text.

Right now, it's straight line text only, similar to Notepad's default.

How can one enable text wrapping for the Comment box? If I recall correctly, it used to be that way.

Thanks.

Sometimes, reducing the font size for comment text will help.

Or you may have to remove a couple of comments to provide space for the others to display in full. It is not an ideal workaround, of course, and it may not work.

Thanks for the follow-up. When you copy and paste to flush out possible corruption, it is crucial that you omit the final paragraph mark, as I described in an earlier reply. If you did that, and it still made no difference, you will have to try, again, to increase the "Preferred width" for balloons.

Maybe you have to reduce the "Preferred width" for balloons. You will find that option the Advanced Track Changes Options dialog box. (To open the dialog box, click the dialog launcher icon in the Tracking group on the Review tab and then click Advanced Options.)

Note that if the issue is document-specific, you may have to copy all the content, minus the final paragraph mark (¶), into a new, blank document. To display paragraph marks as well as other nonprinting marks, click the ¶ icon on the Home tab.

The preferred width affects what you see to a certain extent—more so in the print preview at File > Print of course.

I take it you mean that the issue is document-specific? Did you try my second suggestion, to copy the content over to a new, blank document?

    Hello Stefan Blom,

    Thank you for your suggestion.

That option changes the width of the Comments margin on the page, but does not affect the text in the comment boxes.

That text is still only one line only and is still revealed only after hovering or clicking on the balloon arrow.

    Thank you.
