Dear Sir/Madam,

Greetings! πŸ˜€πŸ’

Trust this email finds your members and you safe and healthy.

I'm sharing a screenshot of Normal.dotm. As you can see under languages, it is showing:

  1. (Asian) Japanese
  2. (Complex) Arabic (Saudi Arab)
  3. (Other) English (India)

Whereas I have selected default languages as follows:

  1. English (India)
  2. English (UK)
  3. Hindi

How can I set this right?

Warm regards,

Raahul Dev

    Dear Stefan,

    Greetings! πŸ˜€πŸ’

Trust this email finds your members and you safe and healthy.

Thanks for your valuable advice. I'm concerned with the fact that if I remove the existing Normal.dotm & let the system generate a new Normal. dotm, all existing settings will be replaced by the system's default settings. Then I'll have to reconfigure Norma.dotm according to my needs. This is going to be a herculean task. Because, if you read my other post in this forum, whenever I try to edit any style in Word, Word stop responding for some time.

    Warm regards,

    Raahul Dev

Renaming the Normal template does not replace all existing settings, only those in the Normal template (and these are generally few and can be fixed). Most settings are stored in the registry.

Word 2007 & Later Key Data File Locations

What would be in your normal template are:

    1. Styles
    2. Page size and layout if different from default
    3. Macros if stored there
    4. Custom Keyboard shortcuts if stored there

The Normal style is definitely stored there.

The fact that options for complex fonts are shown could mean that the Normal template was created on a system where the Asian language settings were enabled.

Exit Word and rename Normal. As you restart Word, you should no longer see the complex script etc. options.

You can insert a screen shot by using the Insert image tool:

The Asian Script, Complex Script and Other (or Latin) are font choices that apply to categories of scripts. Scripts are not languages, but are ways of displaying languages.

Devangari is classified as a Complex script, not an Asian script. So if you replace Arabic (Saudi Arabia) with Hindi, you should get a selection of fonts that support Devangari script. Mangal is the default choice, but Arial Unicode and Aparajitita are also good.

    Hi Rahul

I'm AnnaThomas and I'd happily help you with your question. In this Forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

It appears that you are having an issue with the languages displayed in the Normal.dotm template in Microsoft Word. To change the default language settings in Word, you can follow these steps:

Open a new or existing document in Word. Click on the File tab and select Options. In the Word Options dialog box, select Language from the left-hand menu. Under the Choose Editing Languages section, select your preferred language from the drop-down menu and click on Set as Default. If your preferred language is not listed, you can click on Add additional editing languages to add it to the list. Click on OK to save your changes.

This should update the default language settings for all new documents based on the Normal.dotm template. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

I hope this helps ;-), let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards,

    AnnaThomas
