Adjusting height of swimlanes

I'm creating a chart with swimlanes with a horizontal orientation. How can I adjust the Height of the swimlanes so the chart covers the entire page, not just half of it? I want to adjust the height of the lanes so they are equal heights but fill the page.

Apologies for the confusion. In Visio, swimlane charts are typically created using the Cross-Functional Flowchart shapes, and the options I mentioned may not be available in this specific context.

To adjust the height of the swimlanes equally, you can use a workaround by manually resizing the swimlanes to be of equal height. Here's how you can do it:

Select all the swimlanes you want to adjust. You can do this by clicking and dragging to create a selection box around all the swimlanes or by holding the "Shift" key and clicking on each swimlane.

Once the swimlanes are selected, hover your mouse over one of the swimlane's resize handles (the small dots at the corners or sides of the swimlane). Click and drag the handle to resize the swimlanes to the desired height. To maintain equal heights, you can try to match the height of one swimlane and then apply it to the rest.

If you need precise control over the height, you can use the Size & Position window. To access it, go to the "View" menu, click on "Task Panes," and then select "Size & Position." With the swimlanes selected, you can enter the exact height value in the "Height" box to make all selected swimlanes have the same height.

Although this method may require some manual effort, it should help you achieve swimlanes with equal heights. Visio does not have built-in alignment and distribution tools like some other diagramming software, which is why this manual approach is necessary.

Not sure what you mean by "charting software". I'm using Visio that's part of the MS365 Suite. My organization is a governmental entity, so we are using the not-optimal government version.

    1. I don't know what the resize handles are. If you're referring to the dots around the selection, it only makes the entire selection bigger. It does not change the sizes of the individual lanes to be the same size.
    2. I don't know where the "alignment and distribution" tools are.
    3. I can adjust them manually, with much effort. I was looking for a more efficient way to do so.

I guess I'll just have to turn on the grid and count squares.

Hi, I'm Ajibola, an Independent Consultant here and a Microsoft user like you. I don't work for Microsoft. To adjust the height of the swimlanes in your chart with a horizontal orientation and make them fill the entire page, you'll need to adjust the size of the swimlane shapes. Here's how you can do it: 1. Select the swimlane shapes: Click on the first swimlane shape, then hold the "Shift" key and click on the other swimlane shapes to select all of them. 2. Resize the swimlanes: With all the swimlane shapes selected, click and drag one of the resize handles (usually located at the corners or sides of the shape) to adjust their height. As you drag, you'll notice that all the selected shapes will resize together. Keep dragging until the swimlanes fill the entire page to your desired height. 3. Distribute swimlanes equally: If you want the swimlanes to have equal heights, you can use the alignment and distribution tools in your charting software. Look for options like "Equal Height" or "Distribute Vertically" in the alignment and distribution options. 4. Adjust chart size (optional): Depending on your charting software, you may also need to adjust the overall size of the chart to fit the entire page. Look for options to adjust the chart's width and height to match the page dimensions. Note: The exact steps for resizing and distributing swimlanes may vary depending on the charting software you are using. The above instructions are general guidelines, and you may need to refer to your specific software's documentation or help resources for more detailed instructions. Once you've adjusted the swimlane heights and chart size, your swimlane chart should fill the entire page with equal-height swimlanes. Reference
