The phone number is from 855-330-8653 and it keeps calling and leaving a voicemail saying "I'm sorry we can't not sign you in at this time please try again later" however I am not trying to sign into my account because my laptop is already signed by my fingerprint.

    Hi Lindsay H,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I am Blessing, an independent advisor here and a Microsoft user like you.

If you did not request for the call or you are not trying to sign into your account when you receive this call. Please ignore the calls as it could be a phishing attempt. If you are worried that someone else might be trying to access your account, go to the Recent activity page; https://account.live.com/Activity

Kindly find link to learn about how to keep your Microsoft account safe and secure: https://support.microsoft.com/office/628538c2-7006-33bb-5ef4-c917657362b9

    Hope this helps!

When logging in with 2-factor authentication, you can choose to receive an SMS message or a phone call as the second part. I opted for a call this morning and it was from this number and I WAS logging in. Assume someone has been attempting to log into your account somewhere.

A few months ago I was getting SMSs with PINs to log in when I WASN'T trying. That prompted me to change my password to a much more complex one. The messages stopped.

We have common area phones doing this, and they are not set to use MFA. 8-10 calls a day, and they are never logged out. This seems like a MS BUG to me. Why would MS call to confirm a login attempt?

***Addition*** I think you all missed the point of this post. Common Area Phones are not set to use MFA- they don't have 2 factor authentication. Why would Microsoft call us for verification on an account sign-in if we are not even using MFA on those accounts?

When you are logging into your Microsoft Outlook account on your phone and it prompts you for a password, it requires a second authentication. You have the option of choosing a text message to get a code, or a phone call to validate your account.

855-330-8653 is the phone number for the phone call. They identify themself as Microsoft and instruct you to enter # if this is your email account. Once you enter # you can use your email.

I just had to use this method of logging in to my computer when it did not send me a text as part of two-step verification. It allows you to pick a phone call as an option to authenticate.
