Where can I find folders locally on Android that I have set as "available offline", such that other apps can make use of them?

I'm trying to synchronise notes on the program/app Obsidian on Windows and Android. One important feature of this app is that it can take any folder and use it as the "vault" where notes are stored. Using the Windows version of the app, I have created a folder on OneDrive called "Vault", which the program uses as its vault. This ensures that all my notes are available on OneDrive.

The functionality of the Android app is similar to the Windows program: I can choose a folder to use as the vault, and I would like to choose the "Vault" folder on OneDrive for this. In the OneDrive app, I have marked this folder as "available offline". Please note that I do not need instructions on how to do this, as I have done it already.

Now I'm trying to let the Obsidian app find this "Vault" folder. However, I cannot find the folder locally on my device anywhere. I know for certain the files are on my device somewhere, I just do not know where. Thus, I cannot choose the "Vault" folder in the Obsidian app. Am I not looking hard enough for the folder, or is there something else I should be doing?

    Per chat gpt:

OneDrive for Android does not provide direct access to the local path of offline files like traditional file managers do. Microsoft has designed OneDrive to manage offline files within its own app, so you won't find a direct local path to those files in the Android file system.

If you need to access or manipulate the actual files offline, you would typically do so through the OneDrive app itself rather than navigating to a local path on your device. OneDrive manages the synchronization and access to offline files internally.

My guess is that it is encrypted into some other file database thing. Garbage.

However, I was able to do it through third-party apps. See the following page for details: https://www.guidingtech.com/android-folders-auto-sync-onedrive/

Essentially, you can use the OneSync app to sync a local android folder with a specific one drive folder.

    I modified the following options:

Desktop: Right-Click Vault>"Always Keep on this Device"

    Android: OneSync>Settings>Synchronization:

Uncheck "Warn if sync on mobile network"

Wait before each attempt: 5 Minutes

    Enable Autosync: True

    Autosync schedule: "Every 5 Minutes"

Only while device is charging: False

Battery level must be at least: 0%

Internet connection: "Using Wi-Fi and mobile data"

    Instant Upload: True

I have exactly the same question for exactly the same reason (trying to sync with Obsidian) and share the OP's frustration.

    Jason,

Just to be sure, may I ask if you are a human or an AI language model?

    All the best,

    Ribiveer

    Hi Jason,

Thank you for your continued reply.

    Please understand my problem.

There is no restriction in the Obsidian app: the Obsidian app opens the Android file manager when prompted. I cannot find the folder in the file manager. I am asking where the folder is in the files on my phone. When I connect my phone with my computer, I try to find the folder in the files on my phone. I cannot find them using the computer either. I know the files are somewhere on my phone. They are in the OneDrive app, after all. However, I cannot find them outside of the app itself. Not in the file manager of the phone, not when I connect my phone with the computer.

I hope one day my question will break through our language barrier.

Thank you for doing your best and have a great day.

    Ribiveer
