    Hello Todd

I’m Adeyemi and I’d be happy to help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

Moving an Access database from one computer is actually a straightforward process. Here are the steps you can follow to move your database from your old desktop machine to your new laptop:

    1. Locate the Access database file on your old desktop machine. The file will have an .accdb or .mdb extension, depending on the version of Access you are using.
    2. Copy the database file to an external storage device, such as a USB flash drive or external hard drive.
    3. Connect the external storage device to your new laptop and copy the database file from the external storage device to a location on your new laptop, such as the Documents folder.
    4. Make sure that you have Microsoft Access installed on your new laptop. If you don't have it installed, you can download and install it from the Microsoft website.
    5. Once you have Access installed on your new laptop, you can open the database file by double-clicking on it or by opening Access and selecting Open from the File menu.

If your database uses any linked tables or external data sources, you may need to update the links or connections to those sources on your new laptop. You can do this by opening the Linked Table Manager in Access and following the prompts to update the links or connections.

    I hope this helps you.

There are several options for you. The first thing you need to determine is whether the Access application is contained in a single file or multiple files. Many Access applications are split between a back end holding the data and a front end with everything else. The way to determine this is to open the app and look at Linked Table Manager. This will tell you whether there are external data files and where those files are.

Once you have determined what files are needed for the application and where they are located. you can do one of several options.

    1. If you have MS 365 then you have access to One Drive. You can copy the file(s) to One Drive and then log into the new laptop and download.
    2. You can use external storage like a USB Drive and copy the file(s) unto that, then copy from the USB Drive
    3. You can zip the file(s) into one compressed file and e-mail them to yourself
    4. You can connect the laptop to the desktop using a File Transfer cable and transfer your file(s) that way
    5. If the desktop and laptop are on the same LAN, you can share the desktop's drive as a network drive and copy form there.
