RE MY SCANNER it does not scan a document to PDF or Word. What is the problem and can it be fixed? It was working before but I had HP OfficeJet people install it and they said I need a 2019 or 2016 Microsoft Office 365. Can Microsoft Install this for me free of charge? Please reply back asap I need this information now.

I have an HP OfficeJet. Part of the installation instructions involves downloading and installing the HP Smart program from the HP website, https://www.hpsmart.com/us/en . After that's set up and the printer is recognized, you can scan one or more pages. When the scan ends, you click the Save button and you'll see this dialog:

As you can see, you can choose to save in any of several formats, including PDF and Microsoft Word.

Paul, all scanners will scan to pdf. I have an HP scanner. I am not sure where you are with this. If you say exactly which version of HP scanner you have I will help you. Here is my HP ScanJet Pro 2500 f1 Flatbed Scanner - Setup and User Guides | HP® Support

But in the meantime normally you put a document of the ADF/scanner flatbed>Click on>Scan>It is then a matter of saving the scanned document>It is at this point you can choose between e.g. png, jpg or pdf. That is in simple terms. You cannot scan to Microsoft Word, but you can convert a pdf to Word if you have the software, such as Adobe or Foxit or many other software choices on the internet.

Hi Jay, mine only scans to editable text. I do have PaperPort which converts pdf to Microsoft Word. But they are never true Word document because of lack of formatting. I also use Foxit Editor which converts pdf's to editable text.

The ability to scan to PDF is provided by your scanner manufacturer, not by Microsoft Office. As I replied earlier, you would get better answers by asking your question at the support page for the company that makes your scanner. If that is HP, here is their community page: Welcome to the HP Community!

There is no free version of Office for Windows. You'll have to buy a copy: Office Home & Business 2021
