Not able to click on Filter symbol to filter data in excel online

Not able to click on the filter symbol on the top row from a row.

When opening in the desktop version I'm able to filter it, but as it is a shared document and not all have the desktop app we need to solve this issue.

Any idea how to solve?

This just started happening across our organization today. Myself and 2 other used have checked 5 large workbooks and the filter buttons show up, and you can enable/disable filtering, but are all unclickable.

In-cell drop-downs are unaffected, this seems to be isolated to column filters.

Quick Update - All the tables in question have data above them. If I delete the data so the table headers are on the first row, the filter drop-down starts working. Adding a row above the headers then breaks the ability to click the filter drop-down arrow.

    Thanks for the update, Craig.

Since this seem to be an issue with Excel Online exclusively, it cannot be resolved normally by just reinstalling Office or trying a different web browser than the one you are using right now. Thus, you need to provide this experience as feedback to our developers using the steps in the link below.

As explained in the link above: "We’d love to hear from you about what’s working well, what’s not, and any ideas for improvements including possible new features and functions. Your input will help us improve the user experience for you and all Microsoft 365 users worldwide."

"To make your feedback more actionable, please include a screenshot (where applicable). Also, preferably, select the option to allow us to contact you, then provide your email address."

Thanks again for choosing Microsoft! We’re here when you need us.

    Hello, Misael Andriulo.

Welcome to the Microsoft Community Forum. Please accept our warmest regards and sincerest hope that all is well.

We understand that you are having trouble filtering data in Excel Online. One possible reason why you're not able to click on the filter symbol could be due to the fact that the filter option is not available in Excel Online for tables that have merged cells or blank cells within the header row. It could also be an issue with the web browser or computer you are using. So, let's work together as a team to get to the bottom of this. But to better assist you I need to ask:

    1. Is this happening with only one specific Excel file shared with everyone? Or are shared Excel files affected?
    2. So, filtering works in the desktop app but never for any user using Excel Online?
    3. If you create an Excel file in Excel Online and make use of the suggestions in the guide below when using filters does the same issue occur?

Hope to hear from you soon.
