Remove OneNote Access to a Specific Person That Used a Link

Hello,

I'd like to remove this specific person, but others have used the link. From Support articles I've read, it's not possible to remove this person specifically, but the link can be deleted to remove access. My question is: If I create a new link with the same permissions ("Can Edit"), and share that with those I didn't want to remove access originally, will the person I wanted to remove still have no access?

To further illustrate: Persons A & B used a "Can Edit" link to access the Notebook but I want to only remove person "B". If I delete the link, will Persons A & B lose access online and through their desktop app? And then, if I create a new "Can Edit" link and share this with Person A, will Person B still have no access to the Notebook?

Thanks

Hello Mike,

I'm Shalom and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

Hello! Yes, if you delete the link, both Persons A & B will lose access to the Notebook. If you create a new “Can Edit” link and share it only with Person A, then Person B will no longer have access to the Notebook. You can also remove a specific user from a shared link by following these steps:

Click on the shared file Click on Share Click on Manage Click on Advanced Click on Manage Links Click on Shared With Click on the user you want to stop sharing with Click on Stop Sharing to remove them from the link.

Please let me know if you need more help.

Best Regards, Shalom

    Hi Shalom,

Thanks so much for your detailed reply. I appreciate you confirming that deleting the link and creating a new link is a viable plan. I am interested in your alternative, as I'd prefer to not have to delete the link altogether, but I'm not seeing the options you are describing. Where should I be seeing those options? Or, where should I be when I start following the steps you outlined?

If I try to find what you're describing in both OneDrive and OneNote, I end up on a list of people who used the link but without the ability to click on one of them and click "Stop Sharing". (See the below screenshots).

Let me know if there's something I'm missing, or maybe this option isn't available on my account for a reason. Either way, I appreciate your answer regarding deleting the existing link and creating a new one.

    Thanks

    Mike

You can find the answer to your problem in your own screenshot:

The sharing method you used is not specific, so you cannot remove specific users.

Shalom's suggestion only works if you had used the share method to give edit rights to selected users.
