My employer, a University, provides us Mac users with the version of excel that is listed as:

"excel for mac" "ver 16.74 (23061100)" "License: Office LTSC Standard for Mac 2021"

I can't seem to find the equivalent PowerQuery / Pivot table options as my co-workers who use a PC based Excel have.

(I realize that if it IS there, the functionality will probably be less than the PC version)

The PC based Excel users are running:

"Microsoft Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021" - "Version 2101 (Build 14332.20503 Click-to-Run)"

and if you click about excel it says: "Microsoft® Excel® LTSC MSO (16.0.14332.20501) 64-bit"

This version has PowerQuery & Pivot tables and more.

So, neither of us seem to be using the 365 versions of Office.

So my question is, Does my Mac version listed above, have PowerQuery / Pivot tables functionality included in Excel?

(I dont need pivot charts) My menus on the mac Data-> Get external data. Section seems very limited. So It's not clear to

me if I need to have my IT folks do some sort of additional install of optional features, or if I am just out of luck with my Mac version.

Google searches seem to turn up a mixed bag, with various descriptions being specific to the mac 365 version having it,

and another place saying that that it was introduced in Mac in a 16.6x version release... (im at 16.74).

But its getting too complicated and conflicting with the different versions and terminology for me to figure it out.

If it matters, I have a Apple Silicon M2 Macbook Pro with the latest MacOs. Ventura 13.3.1(a).

Thank you,

-William

    Hi

Thank you for following up on your question.

Welcome to the mysterious world of Microsoft licensing. This web page explains what the LTSC license type is and also the Cadence for release of new features. It explains why the availability of Power Query was delayed for you.

    Good day Jim,

I had been meaning to thank you for your reply, as you've answered a few other questions of mine over the years as well !

However, for what it's worth, I apply the monthly updates to Office LTSC Standard for Mac 2021 every month,

and last week, while at 16.76 version level, I clicked on the Data menu and it said there were new data connectors

available, including Power Query. And I'm pretty sure that I did NOT select the "beta" nor "current channel preview" option of auto-update.

Today I confirmed that Autoupdate was still set to "Current Channel" (not Beta / preview), and it updated to the 16.77 level

and I still have the Power-Query. (not sure if PivotTable is there yet but with Power Query it's a start).

I saw another message thread where you were conversing with someone else about 16.76 BETA, and power query went away for that person,

but I seem to have gotten it (and still do) via "current channel" updates.

    Best to you!

    -Craig

    Hi

You do not have a subscription, which is required to have PowerQuery.

You are able to use ODBC connections and there is built-in Microsoft Query where you can write your own SQL queries.

    Hello Da-Bud,

I'm Ibhadighi and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

Power Query is available in Excel for Microsoft 365 for Mac version 16.57 (22011100) or later. However, it seems that you are using Office LTSC Standard for Mac 2021, which is a perpetual version of Office that does not receive feature updates. Therefore, it is unlikely that Power Query is included in your version of Excel.

    I stand to be corrected.

    Best Regards, IBHADIGHI

This feature is generally available to Microsoft 365 subscribers, running Version 16.69 (23010700) or later of Excel for Mac. If you are a Microsoft 365 subscriber, make sure you have the latest version of Office. Select Data > Get Data (Power Query). To open the Query Editor, select Launch Power Query Editor.
