How do I activate the 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage benefit for Microsoft 365 Family subscription?

Hi; earlier today I asked a similar question on another thread. I received one elaborate reply that had no bearing on my query, which reads as follows:

I am a new Microsoft 365 user. The free 5 GB OneDrive cloud storage on my new pc is 97% full.

When I log into my OneDrive account and select the 1 TB at Storage > Manage storage, the following is displayed at Storage summary: Total used, < 0.1 GB/1 TB – 0% used.

My daughter who manages the subscription does not know how to log in to get the full 1 TB benefit. No one seems to know. I have asked other users and have since yesterday morning extensively searched the web, to no avail.

How do I access/activate/sync the 1 TB OneDrive storage?

Please, I need help.

    Hi Craig

    Thank you for your response.

As mentioned in the header (my question) the subscription in question is a Microsoft 365 Family subscription. My response earlier today to 'Blessing' [who also sent me the link to 'Share your Microsoft 365 Family subscription'] was:

"Thank you for your detailed reply. However, I do not understand your response as it does not have any bearing on my query.

As indicated; I am already a Microsoft 365 user. Everything you suggest has been done.

My daughter sent me the invite on 17 August 2023 via email from Botswana, where she lives. During the last week of August, she was on holiday in South Africa and came to my house in Cape Town, where I live. My daughter set up the necessary on my new laptop and installed Microsoft 365.

What I [and my daughter and many others] have been battling to find out, is how to activate / gain access to the 1 TB storage benefit of our Microsoft 365 Family subscription."

My daughter subscribed in March 2020 to Microsoft 365 Family. I am the 5th [and last] person she invited to share the subscription.

The problem is the 1 TB storage is not active; only 5 GB is available [and is almost full (97%)].

My daughter does not know how to access/activate the 1 TB storage. She pays for the cloud storage she uses.

What I desperately need to know, is how to access the 1 TB of cloud storage.

    Thank you in advance,

    Pauline

If you are already paying for a Microsoft 365 plan then perhaps there is a conflict here. If your daughter is paying for the subscription then you need not pay anything as a member of the Microsoft 365 Family.

There also may be a problem in the fact that you don't live in the same residence.

I suggest you email OneDrive support here and ask: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=528676

They will give you the best support. If you are already a Microsoft 365 subscriber then be sure to sign into that account first before you click the link to email support.

It could be that you are signed into the wrong account on your PC's OneDrive app. Go into the OneDrive app Settings > Account tab and check the account that is linked to the app.

    Hi Pauli vZ,

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

Only the MIcrosoft 365 Family subscription can be shared with the 1TB of cloud storage for each family member.

Check on your subscriptions here: https://account.microsoft.com/services

The subscription owner needs to set up the family group at account.microsoft.com/family.

Compare all Microsoft 365 products: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/buy/compare-all-microsoft-365-products

The video and article below should help.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try my best to answer them.

    Best regards,
