How can I overcome the "SafeMode" issue with Word? It is EXTREMELY annoying and can't use it for my school work without running into this issue.

Every time I use Word and try to open either the application itself or even an existing Word file, I receive an error. Sometimes it shows me the "Enable Editing" bottom and I have to very quickly click on it to get the document to open, if I don't, it will simply stop working. Most of the time it doesn't work. It got to a point where I had to restart my computer 3-4 times per session only to get it working.

When I try to convert the Word file to PDF, it tells me that "The document protection is set to high" and won't convert it. Sometimes it tells me "Are you sure you want to open it the last time you tried to open Word it caused a serious problem" and so on. I once called Microsoft support and one person was patient enough to spend a full hour trying to fix it, and all the steps we've done and he tried, worked only very briefly and now we are back to the same problem.

Genuinely, I am spending more time troubleshooting Word than the time I spend on assignments. This is messed up!

If anyone can help me with figuring out a solution for this, I would be very grateful.

Thanks!

Where are your documents stored? In a trusted folder, such as the local Documents folder, you should be able to keep the documents in editing mode.

If you create a new, blank document and save it in the Documents folder, do you still see error messages and crashes?

    Hi Salem

I'm AnnaThomas and I'd happily help you with your question. In this Forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

Sorry for the trouble this might have caused, I believe the Microsoft agent would have performed the following steps below

Disable startup add-ins Repair Office Reinstall Office

If you have tried all of the above steps and you are still having problems with Word Safe Mode, try creating a new user profile on your computer and running Word from that profile. If Word works correctly from the new user profile, then there is a problem with your current user profile.

I hope this helps ;-), let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards,

    AnnaThomas
