No View Side by Side option on ribbon at all (Word for Mac)

Hi all, I'm trying to view two documents side by side in Word for Mac. There is no View Side by Side option in the Windows group of my View tab; it just has New Window, Arrange All, and Split and then the Macros group. I even tried to add View Side By Side to the Ribbon through the Customize QAT editor in case I'd somehow deleted it (I do edit my Ribbon and QAT regularly) and View Side By Side is not listed under the Choose commands from... window under All Commands as something I can add; interestingly in the Customize the Ribbon window for the Ribbon, the Windows group isn't even listed under the View tab; the list goes from Zoom to Macros.

I'm not sure how to put a screenshot up; I've tried inserting both a regular screenshot and a snip into here and it just shows a grey frowny face and 'Not Found'.

I'm trying to look this up onlinbe but finding nothing but 500 articles saying to click View Side By Side in the Windows group etc. etc....What do I do when there literally IS no View Side By Side?

Thanks!

Hi Jake,

Thanks for contacting us and sorry for the inconvenieces,

  • Word for Mac does not have the View Side by Side feature that is available in the Windows version. However, you can still view two documents side by side manually by using the split screen feature. To do this, you need to follow these steps:
    1. Open both documents in Word for Mac.
    2. Click and hold the green expansion dot in the top left corner of one of the document windows.
    3. You will see three options: Enter Full Screen, Tile Window to Left of Screen, and Tile Window to Right of Screen.
    4. Choose either Tile Window to Left of Screen or Tile Window to Right of Screen for the first document.
    5. The first document will be resized to half the screen width and height on the side you selected.
    6. You will see all other open windows on the opposite side of the screen.
    7. Click on the other document window to fill the space adjacent to the first document.
  • Alternatively, you can use the Split feature to view two parts of the same document at the same time in Word for Mac. To do this, you need to follow these steps⁸:
    1. Open the document that you want to split in Word for Mac.
    2. On the View tab, click Arrange, and then click Split.
    3. A horizontal line will appear across your document window.
    4. Drag the line up or down to adjust the size of each pane.
    5. You can scroll and edit each pane independently.

I hope this helps!

Regards, Sola

Or you could have just posted in the Mac forum to begin with. I'm moving this thread there.

Thanks, Sola. All I needed was 'Word for Mac does not have the View Side By Side feature." I tried searching specifcally using 'Word for Mac' in my search strings and still got all the same articles so hopefully this will help others from pulling their hair out. Maybe I can edit the question to reference Mac so this comes up in other's searches?

    Thanks
