Linked documents in Word

When I link a word document to another word document from a file and check link-file, it doesn't show me the content of the source file.

It only shows a dotted rectangle.

It does if the source file is HTML.
What I want is that when I make changes to the source file they are automatically reflected in the main word document.

If you had had a 32 bit version, I would have suggested switching to 64 bit, assuming that your Windows installation is 64 bit.

In theory, you could try switching back to 32 bit. Nowadays, 64 bit is the recommended version for everyone who is running 64 bit Windows, though.

Is this a 32 bit or a 64 bit install of Office? A while back, there were some issues with linked objects in 64 bit installations of Word.

Yes. This is a 64 bit install.

Do you know if an issue was resolved?

Thanks in avance for your time.

    Hi Cliff

    Thanks for your reply

I link the file with the target.docx file open in word using

    Insert->Text->Objet->Objet->Create from file->

.....then I select a souce.dotx file and check Link to file

this results displaying a dotted rectangle. I cant view the content when a source's file extension is .docx

But if the source file extension is .html the content is displayed correctly

Thank you for your Thank for your time and support.

    Sincerely

    Horacio

    Dear Horacio,

How did you link the file? Could you upload some related screenshots about that and upload some screenshots showing the issue in your environment for our confirmation?

Meanwhile, upload a full screenshot of the Account page in the Word application you are using for our reference.

Note: Remove any private information before uploading the screenshots.

Do you use the Object feature to link and update the source file?

If no, I suggest you do that to see the result at your side.

Thank you for your effort and time.

    Sincerely
