I am editing an old operations manual and they have links on the document that are not needed anymore. I try to delete the links and nothing works. It won't let me delete the hyperlink or the word itself.

In which area of the document is the link located? For example, could it be in a footnote or endnote?

Try selecting the whole link and then press Ctrl+X (for Cut).

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, that didn't work. I will click backspace and it won't move. I highlight the words and right click but there is no option to delete the hyperlink. I have attached a screenshot of the options.

    Hello Linda P,

I'm Shalom and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

If you're having trouble deleting hyperlinks or words in Microsoft Word, you can follow these steps to remove them:

    1. Right-click and Remove Hyperlink: a. Place your cursor within the word containing the hyperlink. b. Right-click on the hyperlink text. c. From the context menu that appears, select "Remove Hyperlink."
    2. Use Keyboard Shortcuts: a. Place your cursor within the word containing the hyperlink. b. Press Ctrl + Shift + F9. This keyboard shortcut removes the hyperlink while leaving the text intact.
    3. Edit Hyperlink: a. If the above methods don't work, you can try editing the hyperlink instead of removing it. b. Right-click on the hyperlink text. c. Select "Edit Hyperlink." d. In the Edit Hyperlink dialog box, select the entire URL in the "Address" field and delete it. e. Click "OK."
    4. Manually Delete the Word: If none of the above methods work, and you're unable to remove the hyperlink, you can manually delete the word: a. Place your cursor at the beginning of the word. b. Press and hold the Shift key on your keyboard. c. Use the right arrow key to select the entire word. d. Press the Delete key on your keyboard to remove the word.

    Best Regards, Shalom
