Recording audio on PPT

I am trying to record an audio presentation for my assignment in college and from multiple sources, I have been told that you can record audio from within the presentation, however, I see no option to do so. Supposedly there is supposed to be some "options" button under "File" that allows you to enable recording but there is no such options button when I open File. I only have the options: Info, Save as, Print, Share, About. I was also told that under the "Insert" tab there would be an "audio" option with a dropdown menu to record audio, however, from my end, I am given a singular option and that is to upload some sound-byte that I had previously recorded and downloaded into my personal files. When I search "recording" in the "Alt-Q" internal search engine it states that to record I need to have the desktop app for Powerpoint, however, I am apparently completely incapable of downloading it onto my Windows PC for some reason. I'm honestly at a loss. How am I supposed to record an audio presentation???

    Hi Anthony Kennedee,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. i understand that you're having trouble recording audio on PowerPoint.

Firstly, it's important to note that the ability to record audio directly within PowerPoint is only available in the desktop app for PowerPoint. If you're using the online version or the mobile app, you won't be able to record audio directly within the presentation.

Once you have the desktop app for PowerPoint installed, you should be able to record audio directly within the presentation. Here are the steps to do so:

    1. Open your PowerPoint presentation in the desktop app.
    2. Click on the slide where you want to add audio.
    3. Click on the "Insert" tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
    4. Click on the "Audio" button in the "Media" group.
    5. Select "Record Audio" from the dropdown menu.
    6. In the "Record Sound" dialog box, click on the red "Record" button to start recording your audio.
    7. When you're finished recording, click on the black "Stop" button.
    8. You can preview your recording by clicking on the "Play" button.
    9. If you're happy with your recording, click on the "OK" button to add it to your slide.

If you're still having trouble recording audio when using the Desktop app already, it's possible that there may be an issue with your microphone or audio settings. You can check your microphone settings by going to the "Settings" app on your Windows PC and selecting "System" > "Sound" > "Input". Make sure that your microphone is selected as the default input device and that the volume is turned up.

I hope this helps! If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask. Additionally, here's a helpful article on how to record audio in PowerPoint: Add and record audio in PowerPoint - Microsoft Support
