    Hello Shivkumar I,

I am Ibhadighi and I would happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

If you're having trouble updating Office 2016 for Mac and are being redirected to purchase Office 365, it may be related to the end of mainstream support for Office 2016 and changes in Microsoft's update and licensing policies. Here's what you can do to address this issue:

    1. Check for Updates Manually: Instead of relying on the in-app update process, you can manually check for and install updates for Office 2016 for Mac. Here's how to do it: • Open one of your Office applications (e.g., Word). • Go to the "Help" menu and select "Check for Updates." • The Microsoft AutoUpdate tool will open and check for available updates. If updates are found, follow the prompts to install them.
    2. Download Updates Directly: If the manual update process still doesn't work as expected, you can try downloading and installing updates directly from the Microsoft Download Center: • Visit the Microsoft Download Center for Office updates (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=57395). • Download the latest update package for your version of Office 2016 for Mac. • Run the downloaded package to install the updates.
    3. Check Your License: Ensure that your Office 2016 for Mac license is still valid and activated. Licensing issues can sometimes affect the update process.
    4. Consider Upgrading: Office 2016 for Mac has reached its end of mainstream support, which means it may no longer receive feature updates and will eventually become outdated in terms of security and compatibility. Consider upgrading to a newer version of Office or subscribing to Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) for access to the latest features, security updates, and support.

Please note that Microsoft's focus has shifted towards Office 365 (Microsoft 365) as their subscription-based service, and they encourage users to upgrade to newer versions of Office to stay current with the latest features and security updates. Upgrading to a newer version or subscribing to Microsoft 365 can provide a more seamless and supported experience.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards, Ibhadighi.
