PowerPoint ver. 2307 unable to play YouTube videos while signed in. Plays if I sign out.

Hello,

I'm having an issue where multiple users in our organization are unable to play embedded YouTube videos in PowerPoint unless they sign out of PowerPoint. I can also replicate this issue. Vimeo videos work fine even while I'm signed in. YouTube videos don't work using either a URL or embedded link. It does work on the web portal version of PowerPoint.

I've tried completely reinstalling Microsoft Office, signing out before reinstalling, repairing, clearing all temp files. The "optimize media compatibility" is greyed out for me stating "1 media file requires a network connection" though I'm clearly connected. Also did check for issues (Check Compatibility) which just said it was missing captions. The user who reported this originally stated it only started happening a few weeks ago.

Thank you! Appreciate any suggestions!

So I am on an academic license for an institution but have only been able to get these PowerPoints to work since early July by logging off of the school account. Some of these PPTs are several years old so nothing changed about the document and I have updated everything in Windows.

    Thanks.

    Hey Cliff,

Thank you as well, and no worries it's the weekend!

So I went ahead and did the Online Repair, restarted, and tested with the same results unfortunately.

Also went ahead and did the sign out, restart, sign in, test, with more of the same. Per usual if I sign back out it works.

Hope you have a good weekend I look forward to hearing from you!

    Dear Jeremy,

Thanks for your updates and I may need some time to do a test at our side.

If it is convenient, could you go to Control Panel>Programs>right-click on the Office applications' icon>Change>check whether there is an Online Repair option? If yes, run it, restart the computer and then do a test again to see the result.

I'd also like you to sign out of the account from the PowerPoint application, restart the computer, re-sign into the PowerPoint application and then do a testt to check the outcome.

I'll update the test result at my side as soon as possible.

Welcome to share any updates at your convenience.

Thanks for your effort and time!

    Sincerely

    Hey Cliff,

So we're both on the latest version of PowerPoint Version 2307 (Build 16626.20170 Click-to-Run). I had a different coworker try it who wasn't on the latest version and it worked for him. I then had him update PowerPoint and try again, and surprisingly no issues. I just checked for updates again in PowerPoint and it says I'm up to date.

Unfortunately, every YouTube video has this issue. But here's the specific video I was using as a test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUW7j9GmXjI

Here's my account page as I'm also experiencing the issue:

And here's what it looks like on my end while editing, whenever I click play nothing happens:

And while presenting, the camera icon at the bottom lights up but no video plays when the video is clicked:

But if I happen to sign out of PowerPoint, I can play it:

Let me know if I can provide any more information! Thanks for the help!

    Dear Jeremy,

Based on the information "The user who reported this originally stated it only started happening a few weeks ago.", it seems that the issue doesn't happen previously. If yes, may I know whether the issue happens after updating the version number of the PowerPoint applications?

If you try another YouTube video link, what's the result?

Could you provide the video link you are using for us to do a test if the video has the public access?

Meanwhile, please provide the screenshot of the Account page in the PowerPoint application you are using for our reference. You can access the page via clicking on File>Account.

Note: Remove any private information before uploading the screenshots.

Welcome to share any updates at your convenience.

Thanks for your effort and time!

    Sincerely
