Word did not save my double spacing and headers. Word made a mess of my essay, when I saved it.

I recently created a 1500 word essay on the word processor you offer on the internet. All properly double spaced, with headers, and page numbers on the right top corner. However when I saved it, it wrecked the spacing, placed single words between lines, tossed page numbers to the other side and lost the headers. How did this happen?

    Dear Thomas Strecko

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you

Thanks for the details, I retested it based on your description. I've found that even if I add a page number to the top of the page, it doesn't show up in edit mode. However, it will be displayed in reading mode:

Below is a screenshot of the page in reading mode:

There are currently no settings that can be changed directly in Word online, so this may be due to its design, which will show the correct formatting as well as page number position in reading mode:

I completely agree with you, this is indeed a great addition to the current functionality of Word online, thanks for pointing this out. Microsoft is constantly working to improve the functionality of its O365 products, and such suggestions are greatly appreciated. You can go to thefeedback community to create a new entry or vote for it.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

It appears you were using Word Online. To see how the document will print, you need to look at the Reading view.

I was using it on a web based platform, free office 365, signed in with my school.

I was just writing the essay and I saved a copy to my computer.

Which version of Word are you running? A locally installed version or the web-based (browser) version?

In which view is the document displayed? In a local installation, make sure that you choose the Print Layout view. Turn off the Immersive Reader if it has been activated (applies to the web browser version of Word as well).

    Dear Thomas Strecko,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you

I did a simple test here, too, and I couldn't reproduce it. Therefore, I would like to confirm the following information so that we can have a more specific understanding of your situation:

    • The version information of Word you are using (File - Account - version information)
    • Does this happen with other documents?

We look forward to your reply. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,
