BUG REPORT: OneNote on iPad major pencil problem

Dear Microsoft Team,

I’m using the iPad 9th Gen. (iPadOS 16.4.1) with Apple Pencil. When working with OneNote (16.72.2) it happens quite often, that I cannot select a pencil or that the selected pencil deselects. For some reason the pencil, when tapped, moves up a bit, then goes down again. At the same time, the keyboard moves up halfway and hides again. My workaround is currently, to either restart the app (then it works mostly fine for a while) or to tap the eraser (then the keyboard comes up - annoying) and after that selecting a pencil which then works fine.

This is a major bug which really is no fun working with.

I hope you find a solution (or can help me in any other way).

Thanks so much!

    Hi everyone,

I’ve encountered similar problem with the apple pencil since Aug.

In my case using apple pencil 2 + ipad pro 11”, when i choose any of the pens/highlighters it will sometimes deselect and go to text, on the occasion when the highlighter stay selected, if i try to highlight, it will show animation of a scribble line through, then it will add a letter to the line above.

I use this for teaching and this bug is rendering it unusable. I’ve been using OneNote to teach since 2015, and this is the first time I’ve encountered something that breaks the experience.

I hope its patched soon, since this was first reported back in Apr.

It is now 29th of Jan 2024! And this bug still exists in the onenote app. It is clearly not pen related as it works fine in other ipad apps. I use ipad pro 11 on ipados 17.3

    Dear Microsoft Team,

I have the same problem as this mate here and this issue is really annoying it's clearly an app issue not an issue with the pencil. Because when I type and draw in other apps it doesn't have this problem. I have used One Note for a long time now and I find it an ideal app but if this issue is not solved I will switch to using other apps because I can't afford the waste time rebooting my iPad in my lectures in order to solve the issue (temporarily only) because as soon as I touch the text button the issue comes back. Furthermore, I have my iPad updated to the latest version and one note updated to the latest version. I hope this issue is resolved as soon as possible or else I'll be considering using other note-taking apps.

    Many Thanks.

    Hello,

Thanks for the detailed troubleshooting. This did not resolve the issue for my 2022 ipad Air and 2022 A. Pencil #2. I followed each number and the issue still persists, including Codeye's suggestion. Is this an internal Microsoft bug in the software, or an apple bug?

This error occurs nearly every minute white writing on OneNote, I have used this product since 2014 on surfaces and ipads, but it is at the point that I might switch to Evernote or another software option.

    Thank you in advance.
