I am having issues with MS Word.

I am using Microsoft 365 v18.2306.1061.0 (acquired from my university) on an HP 250 G9 - Intel Core i7-1255U, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD Laptop using Windows 11 Home v22H2.

The word count facility does not work properly, it can produce no count of hi-lighted text or an incorrect number on the bottom status bar. The word count option on the top quick access ribbon works ok. Image attached, another available.

    Dear Steve,

Good day, thanks for querying in this forum, we’re happy to help you.

From your description, it seems that you Word cannot count the highlighted text or shows incorrect number on the status bar. However, it works fine via the top quick access ribbon.

If my understanding is right, we have also tested it on our side with the latest version of Word, and we cannot reproduce the same situation as yours.

We want to confirm with you if all documents have the same problem, if so, this issue may be related to Word client, and we will give you some suggestions below and hope that will help you:

    1. You can refer to this article to make sure you have the latest version of Office. Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps (listed by date) - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn
    2. Please try to set Word into Safe Mode, check whether the issue is caused by the add-ins. For example, close Word, press win + R, in the Run box, type winword /safe, and click OK, then you can open files to check if the same problem will occur. Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC - Microsoft Support
    3. If the suggestions above don’t work, we’d suggest you refer to this article to repair office. Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support

If the same problem still persists after trying suggestions above, to better understand your situation, could you provide the information below/

    1. Could you provide the product information of Office? Please go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features and find the Office and provide the screenshot of office.
    2. May I know if all documents have such problem?
    3. We noticed that you mentioned you have provided the screenshot, however, we may not check it on our side, you can click . to upload your screenshot again.

If my understanding above is not consistent with yours, you can also post back and point that.

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope that you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,
