    Dear Anon,

    Good day!!

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and please don’t worry, let’s work together on your concern and move towards a resolution path.

I understand your concern and would like to let you know that I have tested the behavior at my end in the latest version of the Word app by embedding the Excel chart into the Word document.

In this situation, I would like to confirm whether you have embedded the Excel chart by inserting the chart directly from the Insert tab of the Word application or use Paste Link method for pasting the copied chart into the Word document from the Excel workbook containing the chart.

If it’s the later methods where copying the chart from the Excel workbook and pasting it as a link in the Word document, please open the source Excel workbook and see whether you are able to see the data in the Excel chart.

Moreover, please share the following information for better understanding and guiding you further:

    1. Word app version. Open the Word app> Account> Take a screenshot and share it with us. (please mask your personal information).
    2. Does the problem happen with all Word documents?
    3. Can you please share screenshots of the behavior observing at your end?

Appreciate for your patience and understanding. Have a great day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia

    Dear KS,

Thanks for writing back and sharing the requested information. Apologies for the delay in the response.

As per the further updates, I have tried to find the Excel workbook location for the insert chart directly via Word application, where I wasn't able to find the Excel workbook location and also tried to consult some seniors where they were not able to find the location of the source Excel workbook when the chart is inserted directly.

Moreover, since you mentioned the problem is happening intermittently, I would like to suggest you to perform Online Repair to the Office apps and check whether the problem happens in the future. Reference: Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support

In addition, I will keep this thread open and invite Word MVPs to share their experience on your concern.

Once again our sincere apologies and appreciate your patience with us.

    Best Regards,

    Sophia

    Hi Sophia,

Thanks for your help with this.

I can confirm i have have embedded the Excel chart by inserting the chart directly from the Insert tab of the Word application.

This is the only document i have created with a bar chart so far, and i have had this problem with the data chart disappearing twice and only the first time i was able to get it back somehow so unsure why this time is different,

    Please see the screenshots below.

To redisplay the data, on the contextual Chart Design tab of the Ribbon (which will be displayed when the chart is selected), in the Data group, click Edit Data, then Edit Data again in the dropdown menu.
