In the process of following online instructions to recover SPELL CHECK, I somehow lost the ability to open a new Word Doc. It wants me to Activate it again, but the currently available activation code won't work with MAC OS 11.6, it requires 12. And I can't update my OS for a variety of reasons. HOW CAN I GET MY WORD BACK???

PS: Oddly, even after installing 16.54, my About Word still said I have 16.77.1....

    Dear Eliezering,

    Thank you for the reply.

You mentioned "first I got “Updates”", you can open an Office app such as Word, then on the top menu, click HelpCheck for Updates. Then untick Automatically keep Microsoft apps up to date option to turn off AutoUpdate for Office applications.

After turning it off, download version 16.54 again and see the result.

You can also try to switch to a new Mac user account, sometimes the issue is caused by a specific corrupt user profile.

    Sincerely,

    Hi Jazlyn,

    Correct

May I confirm whether you received any error message when activating Office again?

I received a note that I needed to update my OS to 12, but for a mysterious reason that Apple has been  unable to solve, I have never been able to update my OS from Big Sur 11…I guess I’ll have to send it in to them to do it.

And if you install the Office apps with version 16.54 on your device: installation package, can you activate this version of Office successfully? **No, first I got “Updates” which showed that Word, Excel, Powerpoint and a few others MUST be updated to 16.77.1, which I didn’t try to do.****And oddly, even though I successfully installed the 16.54 installation package, when I rebooted, then re-opened word, it was still in 16.77.1 anyway, but it won’t let me create a new document. (“New Document under FILE is grayed out.) And when I didsomehow manage to get a blank document open through another means, I couldn’t type anything onto it.****Any other ideas?**Thanks Jazlyn!Elliot Sobel***-***-****
