In Word for Windows, you can modify the default settings for paragraph spacing via the Paragraph dialog box. Doing this will also update the Normal style.

    A. On the Home tab, click the dialog launcher icon (circled in the screen shot below) in the Paragraph group.

    B. Choose the desired settings for Spacing Before/After and Line Spacing.

    C. Click Set as Default.

    D. When prompted, choose "All documents based on the <template > template." Unless you are using a specific template, Word will save the changes to Normal.dotm which is the blank document template.

Changes apply to future documents that you base on the template.

I guess that you are referring to paragraph spacing, which is added as you press Enter to create a new paragraph?

You can select the text and then access the Paragraph dialog box from which you change the Spacing Before and Spacing After to zero. See the screen shot below.

A long term solution is to modify the spacing for the paragraph style you are using.

Are you not seeing the prompt to save the changes to your template?

Note that if you are editing a document that is saved to OneDrive, the Normal template may not be recognized.

    Hi, Stefan,

Good afternoon. Thank you very much for writing back to me this soon.

Referring to your instructions, I have tried it out to set the default values for font, font size, and line spacing.

After that, even I clicked on the button "Set as default, you know what? Microsoft Word saves all these new changes to a file "Doc1.doc". This file functions as a generic Word document file. It is definite not the file Normal.dotm you mentioned before.

So, in other words, I am so sorry to let you know that the instructions that you sent me, they simply do not work at all.

Thank you very much for reading this email message. Please do not forget to write back to me and send me your feedback. Ok? :)

Bye now. Have a good one. Longing for your reply. :)

    George.
