How do I stop autocorrect from correcting mid word?

Hello.

Sometimes, when I'm typing a word, the autocorrect assumes I'm finished and corrects mid word, before I'm finished, for different word. For example: I might be trying to type "scale", but when I type "scal" it autocorrects to "scam", even before I finish typing the entire word.

This is incredibly annoying and it's causing me to have a lot of typos. Is there a way to ensure autocorrect will only correct after the word is done?

The AutoCorrect feature in Word doesn't work that way. It makes a change only after you press the spacebar or a punctuation character. If you don't type one of those keys, even if the part of the word is a "trigger" for an AutoCorrect item, Word will sit and wait for the next keypress that signals the end of the word.

What you're describing is "predictive text", which is a different feature. To turn it off, go to File > Options > Advanced and clear the check box for "Show text predictions while typing".

    .

A quick way to get there is to click the Text Predictions section of the status bar at the bottom of the Word window (assuming you have that section turned on in the right-click menu of the status bar).

Hi José, Thank you for reaching out to this forum. I'm Utkarsh and as a fellow Microsoft user, I'm here and ready to help you today.

I am a user like you, this is a user forum and not Microsoft directly.

To stop autocorrect from correcting mid-word in Microsoft Word, you can try the following steps:

1.Disable autocorrect: You can turn off the autocorrect feature completely to prevent it from making any corrections. Here's how: a) Open Microsoft Word. b) Go to the "File" tab and select "Options." c) In the Word Options dialog box, click on "Proofing" in the left-hand menu. d) Click on the "AutoCorrect Options" button. e) In the AutoCorrect dialog box, uncheck the "Replace text as you type" option. f) Click "OK" to save the changes.

    1. Customize autocorrect settings: If you still want to use autocorrect but want more control over its behavior, you can customize the autocorrect settings. Here's how:

    a) Open Microsoft Word. b) Go to the "File" tab and select "Options." c) In the Word Options dialog box, click on "Proofing" in the left-hand menu. d) Click on the "AutoCorrect Options" button. e) In the AutoCorrect dialog box, you can add or remove specific autocorrect entries or modify existing ones. f) To prevent autocorrect from correcting mid-word, make sure there are no entries that match the partial word you're typing. g) Click "OK" to save the changes.

    I am NOT a Microsoft Agent/Employee.

I hope this is helpful! Best Regards, Utkarsh
