Onedrive sync broken with 2023 09 / 2023/10 update

Hi,

I've never had a problem with OneDrive until last update of Windows 11 (and Windows 10, for that matter). Now every time I unlink and relink my account, the sync arrives until a certain point and then stops, OneDrive closes, reopen but mu account is unlinked and the app says "looking for changes".

If I format my pc or if i install a new virtual machine (I've done it 20-25 times already) OneDrive works just fine until I do the updates.

Strange thing my business OneDrive keeps workingjust fine.

I've tried every trick in the bag: reset with /reset, uninstall OneDrive and installed the version from website, opt-in for the "beta" of OneDrive, tried to install an old version of OneDrive (this one work not so well because when I launch it the first time OneDrive auto updates even if I stopped the task scheduler jobs).

I've pretty much exhausted my options except install an old version of Windows 11 and stop all the updates. Someone can help me?

Thank you very much

Daisho

    Solution:

"After two weeks and 52 reinstallations/installations of Windows 11 and 10, the solution to the problem was as follows:

(For the hundredth time) I disconnected OneDrive from my PC, went to the OneDrive web page, and deleted all the folders, putting them in the recycle bin. When OneDrive was empty (except for the "vault" folder, which is undeletable), I went into the recycle bin and restored all the folders I had deleted a few minutes earlier. I then returned to the PC, reconnected OneDrive, and at that point, synchronization resumed without any issues."

Thank you so so much Daisho2000 !

I have been grappling with this problem for over 3 months now and was beginning to despair of ever fixing it. Your solution has finally enabled me to do so :)

    To summarise:

    • Unlink my PC then quit OneDrive
    • Log into OneDrive via a browser
    • Check the recycle bin to see if there was anything you want to keep, recover those and remove anything you don't want so you end up with a 'clean' recycle bin
    • Switch back to My Files and take a note of the total storage used (bottom left of screen)
    • Start deleting all folders, except Personal Vault - I did this step in batches of 3-4 folders at a time
    • When all deleted, ensure you select 'Restore all items' from the Recycle Bin, The recycle bin items will disappear at this point.
    • Switch back to My Files, it will initially be empty (don't panic) - you have to refresh the page as it can take a few minutes or so to fully recover (I had 80GB of data). Keep refreshing until you reach the storage total you had previously noted down,
    • When done, restart OneDrive on the PC and sign back in. Sync should now be working again and OneDrive settings will show your account details.

    Thanks again for the solution.

Thank you for this. It worked for me.

This has been driving me crazy for the past several days I have two account. One Business and one personal. The Personal account would not sync anymore either on my Win 10 VM and on my Mac. I unistalled/resintalled OneDrive with multiple older versions, used different Mac Accounts, booted in safe mode etc etc etc. Tried so many things and I was about to give up until I found this post. It's Syncing fine now on my Mac. For some reason not yet on my Win10 but as long as I have it on my Mac that's fine.

Edit: It's now syncing well on my Win10 too. :-)

Thanks a lot, give some hints to proceed after a short night. With 732 GB and 250.000 files/pictures we need here and now, we have migrated what currently is needed for the current publishing of a book to Google drive and asked Microsoft to look into the details.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

The data loss is not that big for the few days where the Coworkers still have the updated files on the local disk drive.
