Switching from company Microsoft 365 to personal Microsoft 365 Family - what are the steps?

A few years ago I was using a stand-alone version of Microsoft Office Professional 2019 that was licensed through Microsoft's charity volume licensing program, when I worked for a charity. I have my own personal copy of Windows 10 on my personal laptop. I then moved to a different company, which gave me a new sign-in for Microsoft 365. I don't remember reinstalling anything at that point. Somehow this company account became connected to my personal Microsoft account with a new PIN to sign into Windows. Now I've left that company and want to purchase Microsoft 365 Family personally, so before I start I want to know what the steps are to make this change. Do I need to uninstall the version of MS 365 I now have from my former company, and reinstall the Family version, or will it just involve entering new license info? When my former company sign-in is deactivated, what will happen to my copy of Windows? Will I be locked out, since the Windows PIN is connected to my former company's license now?

    Hi Jon D!

You will need to completely uninstall the Microsoft Office on your PC and then install the Microsoft 365 family but ensure you change your PIN that is used to login into your Windows PC.

    1. Uninstall Office 365 on your PC using the Microsoft Uninstall tool
    • Download the tools from: https://aka.ms/SaRA-officeUninstallFromPC
    • Run the tool. You will find Office 365 and other Office apps if available
    • So tick that for uninstallation
    • The uninstallation may take 50 minutes.
    • Then restart the PC when done

    1. Reinstall Microsoft Office application:
