How to disable word count from Word completely.

I am writing a report in Word (55,378 words so far) and would like to turn off the word count completely. Every time I type a word it goes into overdrive counting them all again, slowing down production of my report.

I have removed it from my status bar and under the Review tab, Word Count tab, the box is not selected but it is still constantly counting words.

I have been told by a Tech support company in the UK that Microsoft Word is not made for large documents but cannot believe others do not write big documents in Word.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Thank you for your message.

I tried everything that you suggested and nothing worked.

I did try my document on another computer and it did not have the same problem.

My computer has been stripped back to basics i.e. all software uninstalled and reinstalled and I got it back last night. It is now working a treat and finally not counting words in the Word document.

Thank you for you help.,

Kind regards

Louise

    Hi,

I am glad to know that this is already fixed.

To be exact, Uninstalling and Reinstalling the application always serves as the final option. I have it prepaired while waiting for your response, but I'm glad that you already performed prior in replying to the post.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, it seems your unable to completely disable the Word Count feature on your Word completely. Let's work on this issue together.

To better understand the situation, I would like to ask some questions, such as:

Generally, to turn off word count in Microsoft Word, you can right-click the status bar and deselect Word Count from the pop-up menu. And I researched a lot on my side, however, I didn't find a related registry edit to disable it in Word permanently.

If you are still encountering the problem, you can try installing the Office updates Install Office updates - Microsoft Support.

If an Microsoft 365 application such as Word or Excel isn’t working correctly, sometimes restarting it will fix the problem. If that doesn’t work, you can try repairing it. When you’re done, you might need to restart your computer. You can also perform Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support

I hope this helps. Looking forwad for your response!

    Sincerely,

    Leonardo_Y
