Is there any difference between OneDrive BACKUP and OneDrive SYNC

Hi,
I have seen a number of responses related to this question within the community BUT none seem to answer the basic, fundamental question ...is there a separate BACKUP functionality to the SYNCING functionality within OneDrive? They appear to be one and the same - that is, there is no separate BACK-UP vs SYNC functionality - they are one and the same, and that when OneDrive refers to backup, it really means 'syncing' to the cloud rather than a fully independent one-way backup to the cloud.
Is my understanding correct?
Am I correct in saying that when choosing the Backup functionality in OneDrive, all that is really happening is a SYNC operation (which could loosely be seen as a back-up, although NOT strictly a one-way snapshot of files at a point in time).
I hope this makes sense!!
Thank you

    Hi Tony B,

Yes, you are right. OneDrive sync and backup are the same. When you sync OneDrive, you backup those files on OneDrive, which means that you can access synced files via other devices.

Note: You can choose which folders to sync/backup via the OneDrive app.
