Word - Eyedropper tool missing (Word for Windows)

I'm following a Word tutorial, and they use the eye-dropper tool. To my horror, I have discovered that Windows Word doesn't have an eyedropper tool. It must be one of the most fundamental tools in any graphical application. Am I living in some kind of horror universe where nothing I use ever works or can ever be excellent? Or is there another explanation as to why 'my' Word doesn't have an eyedropper tool?

If you have Microsoft's Paint app installed then you can Print Screen the color you want ("prt scr" key on the keyboard) and Paste into Paint. Then use Paint's eyedropper ("Color Picker") to selec the color and then click the color wheel ("Edit Colors") icon in Paint/ It will show you the RGB values for the color you want. Copy these into Word's color Shading field (found in the Paragraph section) and it will let you use the selected color.

Many years ago I spoke with a deveoper of the original Paint. The outside developers offered to add several features, such as eyedropper, for free but Microsoft rejected them. The developer thought Microsoft wanted to push users into other products.

Hi, Gavin. Thank you for coming to the forum. My name is Femi. It is worth noting that this is a user community, and we are all users here, much like yourself. While we strive to assist and share insights, we are not Microsoft directly.

I am sorry that you can't find the Eyedropper tool on Word. As a user, I understand how frustrating that can be. I wish there was a better way to tell you this, But there are no Eyedropper tool in word.

In the article, (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/no-eyedropper-in-word/55825557-a831-432d-ae1c-8d2f8be0bc85 ), Jay Freedman MVP explains in detail:

"There never was an eyedropper tool in Word. There is one in PowerPoint, which you can use to find the RGB values of something in that program, and then transfer that to the More Colors dialog in Word.

Or you can look for a third-party app, such as the one at https://eyedropper.en.softonic.com/ .

(Note: This is a non-Microsoft site. The page seems to provide accurate and reliable information. Beware of advertisements on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as PUPs (Potentially Unwanted products). Please do thorough research on any product advertised on the site before downloading and installing it.)

Go to File > Feedback > Send a Suggestion and tell the developers you want an eyedropper added to Word. Lots of people have asked for it in the past, and the more requests there are, the better the odds."

You can leave feedback so the developers can get to see it.

I hope this helps, let me know if this contradicts what you need. I remain helpful in answering any more of your questions.

    Best Regards,

    Femi.

"There never was an eyedropper tool in Word."

Word on MacOS does have an eye-dropper tool, even if it's injected by the OS or custom fitted by Apple or MS before release. It does have it. I just watched a tutorial and she used and talked about the eye-dropper tool.

Why would I need to submit feedback, this feedback already exists, I'm sure. As I said, it's an absolutely basic feature of any graphical app that works with color.

Word is a word processor, not a graphical app.

It has some basic tools for handling image files but is far from being a graphics editor.

When I want to do anything with graphics, I move the image into the SnagIt Editor and edit there. Then, perhaps, move the image back into Word.
