Inquiry about Charges for Microsoft Organizational Accounts

I have a question regarding the charges for Microsoft organizational accounts.

I have configured a bot created in Teams for use within our organization. To validate its functionality with multiple users within the organization, I added an additional account. I would like to confirm whether there will be any charges associated with this account.

I have not assigned a license to this account (please refer to the attached image). Due to the absence of a license, my understanding is that there should be no charges. I recall reading an article suggesting that without a license, the account may become unusable after approximately 90 days.

If there are no charges associated with this account, I am considering adding around 30 more accounts without licenses to our organization. I would appreciate information on whether charges would be incurred in this scenario as well.

Thank you for your assistance.

    Dear User_1087,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to assist you.

Typically, Microsoft will charge per the number of licenses you assigned to your account. Therefore, if you have not assigned a license to the additional account, then there should be no charges associated with it. You can create a number of unlicensed user accounts, but to access Microsoft services you must assign license and pay for those licenses. So, if you add 30 more accounts without licenses, there should be no charges associated with them as well. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

In addition, you can also create shared mailbox without license to collaborate with coworkers, you can refer to About shared mailboxes - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

Thank you for your precious time. Have a nice day.

    Dear User_1087,

Many thanks for your kind update,

I greatly appreciate your time and effort to test the scenario from your end. Based on your response.

Typically, users can't access any of Microsoft Services without valid license. However, in order to better understand your query and provide accurate information, May I please double confirm if you have Teams exploratory license in your tenant? if you haven't check it, please kindly check and confirm. You can refer to Manage the Microsoft Teams Exploratory experience - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

    • May I please double confirm if this unlicensed user can sign in and access teams using Teams for Mobile app?
    • Could you please also provide us with the screenshot of the Teams interface where the unlicensed user signed in?

I look forward to your update.

Thank you for your precious time. Have a nice day.

    Sincerely,

"Although it states, 'You can create a number of unlicensed user accounts, but to access Microsoft services you must assign license and pay for those licenses,' why are users who have not been assigned licenses currently able to use Teams? Does this imply that some Microsoft services can be accessed without a license?"

    Thank you for your reply!

I appreciate the clarification that by adding 30 accounts without assigning licenses, we can use Teams for a certain period free of charge. I will proceed with the experiment promptly!
