OneDrive storage listed and actual storage do not match

Hi,

My storage limit is being reduced to 100 GB at the end of the month. I checked my files and didn't think it would be an issue; after checking the storage online, it shows I have 106.5 GB used compared to the 15.6 GB my PC has when I go into OneDrive>Settings>Account>Choose folders.

The recycle bins are both empty in OneDrive and the numbers both online and on my PC are the same, despite the OneDrive site displaying something wildly incorrect. Is this going to be a problem when my storage limit changes, and if so, how do I fix this?

    Hi Shalom,

While I appreciate that you are a "Microsoft consumer" just trying to do your best, what you have actually done is read the title of my issue without reading the body where I detail that I have checked the numbers and recycle bins, noting that while they match, the total displayed online is incorrect.

In essence, what you have done is give me the exact same information I would have gotten from interacting with a bot or reading a help guide.

Copying and pasting a canned response to a keyword as a reaction is not a good way to actually help people. Be better than that.

    Hello Christopher G,

I'm Shalom and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

To address this issue and ensure that your storage is accurately represented, you can try the following steps:

    1. Sync Your OneDrive: Make sure that your OneDrive is fully synced. Open the OneDrive application on your PC and check if all files are up to date. If there are pending uploads or downloads, wait for the synchronization process to complete.
    2. Check OneDrive Settings: Open the OneDrive settings on your PC and verify that you are only syncing the folders you need. Sometimes, unwanted or large folders may be included in the sync, consuming more space.
    3. Empty the OneDrive Recycle Bin: Ensure that the OneDrive recycle bin is empty both on your PC and on the OneDrive website. Sometimes deleted items may still be taking up space until the recycle bin is emptied.
    4. Check for Large Files: Manually review your OneDrive folders for large files or folders that you might have missed. Look for any files or folders that could be taking up more space than expected.
    5. Repair OneDrive: On your PC, right-click on the OneDrive icon in the system tray and select "Settings." Go to the "Settings" tab and click on the "Unlink OneDrive" button. Then, relink your OneDrive account and allow it to sync again.

    Best Regards, Shalom
