Ribbon has completely disappeared.

My ribbon has suddenly disappeared. The solutions on how to fix this that I have found are make sure that the document is in print layout view (it is) or to click on the ribbon display options icon. However I do not have this icon - only the usual minimise/maximise and close icons and a diamond icon.

From my article: Minimizing Ribbon / AutoHiding Ribbon / Toggling Toolbars

The Browser Word program can have its own quirks.

Here is a dropdown menu available from the left end of the ribbon in the browser version.

    Image.

If it looks like your Ribbon has disappeared...

And it does not have any control for that dropdown display menu...

    Image.

    It is automatically hiding.

Move your mouse pointer toward the top of the Word window in the browser and the Ribbon will appear.

On it, you will find, on the left end, the drop down to give you the menu shown above. Change it to Always Show.

    Thank you Charles

I am using the desktop version. Microsoft 365, Windows 11. The problem does not happen in safe mode.

I have tried moving the pointer to the top of the word window and nothing happens.

See my article: Minimizing Ribbon / AutoHiding Ribbon / Toggling Toolbars

Does this happen if you start Word in safe mode?

Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC - Microsoft Office

Which version of Word are you using? Browser or desktop?

    Hi Charles

I started with your last advice and I accidently discovered that somehow I had unchecked all the tabs on the customise the ribbon box. I ticked the checkboxes for the tabs I wanted and bingo - I have my ribbon back. I must have done something to turn them off, although I don't know what. Feeling a bit silly now but thank you for your help. I learnt some new things like assigning shorctuts which will be very useful.
