If the template was properly formatted, this would be paragraph shading in the heading styles.

    Work with a copy.

Select the paragraph with the shading that you do not want.

On the Home tab in the Paragraph Group is a little window icon for borders. Click on it and hold it down. At the bottom should be Borders and Shading.... Click on that, then click on the tab at the top of the dialog box that pops up, for Shading.

Pick "No Shading." Make sure that the Apply to box says "Paragraph."

Then, right-click on the Style being used and update it to match formatting.

I agree with Stefan that if you can give us a link to a document with the problem we could help you more easily.

    Hello Daku87,

I'm Shalom and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

To remove background colors for headings in Microsoft Word, you can follow these steps:

    1. Select the Heading Text:
    • Open your Word document.
    • Select the heading text that has the background color you want to remove.
    1. Go to the "Home" Tab:
    • Navigate to the "Home" tab in the Word ribbon at the top of the window.
    1. Open the Font Color Menu:
    • Look for the "Font Color" button in the ribbon. It may have an icon with the letter 'A' and a paint bucket.
    • Click on the arrow next to the "Font Color" button to open the menu.
    1. Choose "No Fill" Option:
    • In the Font Color menu, look for the option that says "No Fill" or "No Color."
    • Click on this option. It usually appears as a square with a diagonal line.
    1. Check the Result:
    • After selecting "No Fill" or "No Color," the background color of your heading text should be removed.

    Best Regards, Shalom

Background colors could be text shading. However, another possibility is that you are dealing with some graphic element that provides the color.
