Ink to text In Office. Not showing the pen.

Hi,

I just got my Surface pro 9. It's the one with i5, 8gb of ram and 256gb ssd.

I installed office and the ink to text pen appeared in word and worked as intended.

Suddenly the pen disappeared, now there are only the normal pens.

The "Action Pen" is still there, but is of no use when the "Ink to text" pen is not there anymore - of course.

I have already tried reinstalling office, also uninstalling all the language packs and OneNote.
It is also not visible in OneNote. And as always i tried updating and restarting the device.

I am not sure if the office version is for education or business, but it should not matter as it has worked :)

My kindest regards and thanks in advance

Adrian

    Hi again

I think you misunderstood my question, but it is ok as i have solved it myself :)

I was writing about the first pen on the screenshot below. The one that automatically converts your scribbling to text.

I found out, that i must have the keyboard layout on US English. I changed it to UK English, and of course it wont work with my native language (Danish) ((yet hopefully)).

I i change it to the Danish the pen with an A vanishes, sadly.

As you say i can write text, right click and select ink to text - this works for Danish, at least a bit. It can understand accented characters, but i don't think the accuracy is as great as with English - but i think that is to be expected.

    Many thanks for your time.

I wish you a merry christmas.

    Best regards Adrian

Here is a blog article I just wrote and published in the past few weeks: Introducing the Ink to Text Pen tool in Word, OneNote, and PowerPoint for Windows (microsoft365.com)

As you noticed, the ink to text pen is only available when your input language is set to "en-US". If you find that the ink to text pen disappears in OneNote, the most common issue that I've found is that the input language is not "en-US". We will be supporting additional languages soon!

Don't forget to send feedback in app if you are having problems. That is the fastest way to have Microsoft team responsible for this to see the issue.

    Hello Adrian,

My name is EngineTyme, an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you and I would be glad to help you.

As suggested by A. User in this thread: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/ink-to-text-icon-not-showing/38fa5c99-6fed-4aac-8936-073d279bbc9d

"What happens when you select the handwritten text? Does the ink to text button appears?

I suggest you select the handwritten text and then check if the ink to text button appears.

You may also refer to the following article on Convert handwriting to text and check if it helps."

    Also, Check Pen settings:

Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Pen & ink. Make sure "Show Windows ink workspace when I hover my pen near the top of the screen" is turned on. Under "Hardware pen buttons," check if there's a button assigned to the "Ink to Text" pen. If so, try pressing it.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concern.

    Best regards, EngineTyme.
