Print to PDF on Word

Hi there!

I'm having some trouble using print to PDF on Word. I have a rather large document that is formatted as a book and I plan to eventually print it out as such but in the meantime, I would like to be able to save it as a print to PDF.

Every time I press 'print' a couple of different things can happen:

  1. Word crashes, and I am forced to close it down without being able to save the PDF.

OR

  1. I can save the PDF, but it will split the document into multiple (around 10) different PDFs. some of these are much larger than the others.

I have tried multiple things such as deleting and re-installing the print to pdf driver, updating Word, merging the PDFs (this doesn't work as the formatting on the smaller PDFs is messed up) and updating my computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am stuck as to what to do. Could it be that my original document is too large to print as one PDF or can my computer simply not handle doing it?

Thank you for any help!!

Hi again, I understand that you are having trouble printing your Word document in signatures after exporting it to PDF.

To print your PDF document in signatures, you can use the "Booklet" feature in Adobe Acrobat Reader. Here are the steps to do so:

    1. Open your PDF document in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
    2. Click on "File" in the top left corner of the screen.
    3. Select "Print" from the drop-down menu.
    4. In the Print dialog box, select "Booklet" under the "Page Sizing & Handling" section.
    5. Choose your preferred booklet subset and booklet order.
    6. Click on "Print" to print your document in signatures.

Yes, that is correct. Every time I press print, Word stops responding.

I have tried your suggestion but unfortunately, this hasn't worked. Do you have any other possible fixes?

Are you saying that with that doc open > File > Print > "Microsoft Print to Pdf" causes a crash?

If that is the case in the first instance repair Office

Restart the PC, once fully loaded, repair Office,> Apps & Features>Select Office your version>Modify /Repair, once the repair completes re-test (Quick repair)

I have done this, and it works perfectly fine, except for when it comes to printing I want it printed in signatures, which saving as a PDF doesn't allow for. I know some external websites can do this, but every one I have come across either has a cost associated with it or gets stuck on the loading page.
