    Hello Doug,

I'm Shalom and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

To convert older Word documents into Office 365 Word, you can follow these steps:

Open the document in Word. Click on the File tab at the top-left corner. Select the Info tab in the left sidebar. Click on Convert in the right pane.

This will convert your document to the latest Word format. Please note that converting the document to the newer format lets you use newer features, but conversion might create difficulties for people who are using earlier versions of Word to edit the document.

If you’re unable to click on File when it’s in compatibility mode, you might want to try using Word Online to convert your documents. For that, you need to upload the documents and save them in DOCX format.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    Best Regards, Shalom

    How old are the documents?

If they are really old, it may be necessary to go to File>Options>Trust Center>Trust Center Settings>File Block Settings and remove the checkmark from the Open column for the type of document concerned.
