What's the problem with Words Paste function only giving the option for Text Only?

This really angers me because I have paid versions of Office 2021, 2019, 2010 and 2007 AND THEY ALL DO IT!

Word anyway.

I've used Word 2007, 2010 and 2019 to copy and paste from some technical E-mails I get from Lenovo and the Paste function

used to give me the other options but all of a sudden now it's only giving Text Only.

How can this be fixed? It's ridiculous.

Thanks for any help.

Jeff W.

I'm glad you got it sorted, although you didn't find out exactly what the issue was.

A known issue in (certain versions of) Word is that the program won't honor the selected paste options unless you also choose to display the Paste Options button. This may or may not be relevant to your situation.

At File > Options > Advanced, make sure that you select the "Show Paste Options button when content is pasted" option.

Try copying from one Word document into another. Does that offer more than one paste option? If it does, the issue is with the particular source from which you are trying to paste.

I finally tried all these suggestions and none of them worked.

Actually, the winword /safe thing wasn't recognized.

I have to add that I did chat with a woman named Angeline with support which I accessed

through the help function in Word 2021.

I left her take control of my computer and she did something that brought back the other Paste options.

I don't know what she did, though.

    What's next?

Yes I can, that's why I'm thinking it has something to do with the new Outlook.

Thanks for the follow-up. I see that you have posted a separate thread where you explicitly mention the new Outlook as part of the issue (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/is-the-new-outlook-designed-not-to-allow-keeping/2d7e020e-12ac-4adb-8a3b-9d7b51f19a1e).

Here, pasting from an outlook.com e-mail that I set up in the new Outlook and pasting into Word (part of a Microsoft 365 apps for enterprise subscription, version 2312, Windows 11), I am offered three paste options and they seem to work properly.

    Hello JeffWohnsiedler1,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you need help with Word Paste function. Just to set your expectations, we have limited tools to check your account, subscription, and service details in the community.

    Let me ask you this:

    • I'd like to know what @domain and who hosts your email account. Example @domains: Gmail.com, Yahoo.com Outlook.com/Hotmail.com
      • Can I find out if the account is for work/school use or personal use (Hotmail/Outlook.com)?

There are a few things you can try to fix this issue:

    1. Clear the clipboard cache: Sometimes, the clipboard cache can cause issues with the paste function. To clear the cache, press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box. Type cmd and press Enter. In the Command Prompt window, type echo off | clip and press Enter. This will clear the clipboard cache.
    2. Run Word in safe mode: Running Word in safe mode can help you identify if the issue is caused by an add-in or a third-party application. To run Word in safe mode, press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box. Type winword /safe and press Enter. This will open Word in safe mode.
    3. Disable add-ins: If you have any add-ins installed in Word, try disabling them to see if the issue is resolved. To disable add-ins, open Word and click on File > Options > Add-ins. Select COM Add-ins from the Manage drop-down menu and click Go. Clear the check box next to each add-in and click OK.
    4. Repair Office installation: If none of the above steps work, try repairing your Office installation. To do this, open Control Panel and click on Programs and Features. Select Microsoft Office from the list of installed programs and click Change. Select Repair and click Continue.
    5. If none of this works, try uninstall and reinstall office.

I hope one of these solutions works for you. Let me know further so I can help you more.

    Regards,
