I've been away from writing for several months. Back at my computer now, editing prior document, and found I no longer have 'cut/paste' options. How do I get them back?

Got Copy/Paste to work from Wordpad to Word docx, however the Word docx created converted itself into another Wordpad document. Work hours wasted and I'm at a loss on how to do this now except to type the whole thing over again (65 ss pgs).

Word and WordPad uses the same default file format. If you are saying that double-clicking a Word document icon opens the document in WordPad, the issue is with file associations. A Quick Repair of Office should fix that. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/repair-an-office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b.

If the Copy function (Ctrl+C) works to copy a selection in Notepad, then you can paste (Ctrl+V) that text into a Word document in Word for the Web. That will automatically be saved in OneDrive (the cloud storage).

The Paste, Cut, Copy, and Format Painter buttons should be in the Clipboard section at the left end of the Home ribbon.

    .

The Paste icon is grayed out if nothing has been either cut or copied to the clipboard yet. The Cut (scissors) and Copy (two pages) icons are grayed out if nothing has been selected.

If you don't see the Clipboard group, you can go to File > Options > Customize Ribbon; click Main Tabs in the top dropdown; expand the Home item; click the Clipboard item under it, and click the Add button between the lists; and use the up arrow button at the far right to move the Clipboard item above the Font item. Then click OK.

    .

You can also find Copy and Paste on the right-click menu of a selection, or you can use the Ctrl+C shortcut for Copy and Ctrl+V for Paste.

Why is it everything Microsoft does to "improve" the system just makes it harder for writers? Help me if ;you can. please.

the problem is that my computer has been hacked and now speaks only Russian in Word. Until I can get this changed back to
English--which I've tried but the hacker greyed out all ways for me to do this-- I've been working in Notepad but it won't let me change what seems to be an automatic overtype so I have to retype everything that follows in the paragraph. So I want the doc in Word docx that will live in the cloud but can't copy and paste from Notepad to a Word docx. What am I doing wrong? (hope this makes sense)
