Thank you very much for your quick reply. I have tried some repairing as you and EngineTyme's suggestions, it solved part of the problem, but still encounter the problem that: when using the Drawing Canvas as container for the inserted pictures, only some picture can be compressed, others not, I think that is why the "Compress Picture" not work well.

I will try updating or repairing.

    Thank you

    Hello,

My name is EngineTyme, an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you and I would be glad to help you.

I understand Microsoft Word is not compressing pictures as effectively as before. You're right, Word used to offer reliable compression, especially with the "Web" option, but it seems things have changed recently.

Here some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check for Word updates: Ensure you have the latest updates installed for Word. Sometimes, bug fixes and performance improvements are included in updates.
    2. Try another document: Create a new Word document and insert some images. See if the compression issue persists using the "Web" option. This can help identify if the problem is specific to your current document.
    3. Verify image formats: Ensure you're using image formats suitable for compression, like .jpg and .png. Avoid formats like .bmp or .tiff, which are larger and less compressible.
    4. Adjust Word settings: Go to File > Options > Advanced > Image Compression and ensure the "Discard editing data" checkbox is selected. This can improve compression by removing unnecessary data related to image edits.
    5. Repair Office installation: Consider repairing your Office installation. This can fix potential issues with corrupted files or settings. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, select your Office version, and choose "Change" > "Repair."
    6. Reduce the size of the pictures to about 20 M and try compressing the files again.

Thank you very much for your quick reply. Following your tips it somewhat solve the problem. Here I add some details of my trying:

The MS word is doing well in a new docx that without using the "Drawing Canvas" as the container. However, if I insert pictures to the word using "Drawing Canvas" for further layout editing, then executing the "picture compressing" only some pictures in the "Drawing Canvas" can be compressed others cannot. I wonder why, since, previously it should be also work well even using the "Drawing Canvas" to hold the inserted pictures.

May be later I try updating or repairing.
