Hello :)

I have a question for the basic free office 365 accounts.

I have my own cloud server so that i can manage my own data etc. I do not have micorsoft office installed on my PC. However, i do have the free office 365 web account. I have not used it yet.

Is it possible to just double click my local word, powerpoint, excel files, and have it automatically open up in the browser?

I do not want to have to upload my files to use them, nor do i want to save them on MS servers.

thanks for any help :)

    Hi Matt_Thomas,

    Thanks for contacting us,

Unfortunately, there is no direct way to open local files on the web with the basic free Office 365 accounts. You will need to either upload your files to OneDrive or another cloud service, or install the Office desktop apps on your PC to edit them offline.

Let me know if this helps or if you need further assistance.

    Regards, Sola

    Hi again,

The free Microsoft 365 accounts only include the web versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. You cannot install the desktop apps with the free accounts. To access the desktop apps, you need to have a paid Microsoft 365 subscription, such as Microsoft 365 Family, Personal, or Basic.

    Thanks, Sola
