Thank you for providing the version number, Kevs22. It seems that you currently have an Office 2019 retail license. I'm not sure if the dictate feature is available on the current version you have, as the link I provided above said that it is only available for Office 365 insider subscribers. You can also try following the steps provided by a community user, "Mia Zhao MSFT," where the user stated to "Go to System Preferences > Keyboard or Dictation and Language > Dictation. On the left side, under the microphone icon, select Internal Microphone instead of Auto or External Microphone," and another user seconded that these steps work. You may also try double-pressing the fn key on your keyboard and check if the microphone icon will pop up or if it starts to dictate. In case the issue still persists after trying the suggested steps, it might be that your version does not have the dictation feature.

I pulled the above steps from Official Microsoft Support website. For reference, here's the link below:

In case you still need further assistance in the future, please don't hesitate to let us know. We the community user just like you are always here trying to help. Thank you, and have a nice day!

    Hello,

Unfortunately, I don't have any further troubleshooting to offer.

There are many knowledgeable users active on the forum and I hope that someone else can offer further insight on your issue.

    Thanks,

    Hi Kevs22,

Thank you for reaching out. My name is Leo, a user just like you. I'd be happy to help you with your concern.

May I know if this is your first time using the dictation feature in Word? Please note that not all versions have this feature. For us to check, may I know which Microsoft Office version you currently have? In order to use the Dictate feature, there are prerequisite requirements, including "Insider build 16.32 (19120802) or later installed, an Office 365 subscription, and a stable internet connection." If you have all of these, you should be able to see the Dictation icon under Home > Dictate. Also, as of now, not all languages are supported. We will wait for your response to assist you further if needed. For more information and troubleshooting, you can access the link on the Microsoft Support website below.

I pulled the above steps from Official Microsoft Support website. For reference, here's the link below:

Your understanding and patience will be highly appreciated. I hope I provided a helpful information regarding your concern! Let me know if you have any further questions. Be safe always!

    Best Regards,

    Leo
