How can I move section tabs in One Note from across the top of the notebook, to a list down the left side?

When I created a notebook in Onenote , it put the section tabs (my clients) across the top rather than in a list on the left the way I remember it with previous notebooks. As I have more sections (clients) than pages within each client section, I want the clients listed vertically on the left, with their subsection pages listed across the top. I can't seem to find a way to do this with this newer version of One Note. Anyone have ideas? I'm using Windows 11, office 365 for home.

    Hello Beth,

I'm Shalom and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

Yes, you can change the layout of your section tabs in OneNote on Windows 11. Microsoft has introduced a new feature that allows you to switch between horizontal and vertical layouts. Here’s how you can do it:

Open OneNote and go to the View tab. Look for the Tabs Layout menu. Select the Vertical Tabs option.

This will move your section tabs to the left side of the screen, and your page tabs will be displayed horizontally at the top.

If you don’t see the Tabs Layout option in the View tab, make sure you have the latest version of OneNote installed.

    Best Regards, Shalom

I'm in Office 365 and can't see a Tabs Layout option in view.

I only show Page Color, Page Versions, Show Authors and Check Accessibility. How do I get to the Layout option? I have my sections and pages vertical and want to go horizontal.

Well, as I explained, seeing that his OneNote has no File menu on it tells me absolutely nothing because I wouldn't know whether it was supposed to be there or not in any version. You obviously have more technical knowledge of what various versions of One Note should like like in different vintages of Windows or Microsoft office. Seepeez and I are both having the same problem in that we want our section tabs to be listed vertically, rather than horizontally, but unless you can offer either of a suggestion as to how to make that happen, there's no point in continuing the conversation.

Bernd, your response is not helpful. Clearly Seepeez and I are having the same issue, even if one of us has a different version of OneNote. A more helpful response would be to identify how Seepeez would know that he doesn't have the right version ('Easy to see because you don't have a file menu' means nothing to me, and may not to him). I have a file menu on mine, but still can't make the change to vertical listings. If you can help either of us to work out how to actually change the listings to vertical, I'm sure we'd be most grateful.

No, you don't have the same problem, you have the wrong OneNote (OneNote for Windows 10).

Easy to see because you don't have a File menu.

Well excuse me. I DO have the same problem as GBBC... as my sections & pages are all vertical and I would like to have at the very least, the pages to be horizontal. I too am an Office 365 subscriber and have the OneNote version they provided to me. Before I was forced into 365 (I was told that is the only way to retain Outlook), my OneNote looked very different.
