Dear Jerel Grupe,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft community. We are delighted to offer our assistance.
Managing unique permissions can impact performance, especially when syncing large libraries. SharePoint supports up to 50,000 unique permissions for items (files or folders) in a list or library. The recommended general limit is 5,000 for optimal performance. If a user has access to only a subset of documents within the library, their unique permissions will still count toward this limit.
Also, OneDrive has a sync limit for the total number of items (files and folders) that can be synchronized across all libraries. As of now, the limit is 300,000 items. This includes both items the user has access to and those they don’t. If a library contains more than 300,000 items, the user may experience slow syncs, errors, or issues with synchronization. Please notice that this limit applies to the entire OneDrive account, not just individual libraries. While users can only view the documents they have access to, the total number of items in the library still affects synchronization. Even if a user has permission for only a few thousand documents, the entire library structure (including items they can’t see) contributes to the sync process. If the library exceeds the 300,000-item limit, it can impact sync performance for all users.
In summary, both the number of items in the library and the unique permissions contribute to sync performance. It’s essential to strike a balance between access control and efficient synchronization. If the issue persists, we afraid that in order to address this issue, it may be necessary to investigate the environment on your end. As forum support, we do not have sufficient permissions and resources to perform an investigation directly. Therefore, we sincerely recommend that you contact your Microsoft 365 administrator and follow the steps outlined in this article to create a support ticket and contact Online Support.
The support team at Online Support has higher permissions than us and can remotely examine the situation on your end, gather more resources, and assist you with troubleshooting. This will be a more efficient way to address your concerns.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation! Have a great day.
Sincerely,
