Assuming the symbol is one that can be found in the Unicode set to the font you're using (or some other font you have installed), open the Symbol dialog (Insert | Symbols | Symbol | More Symbols...) and find the symbol you want, either in "(normal text)" or some specific font (either a different alphabetic font or a symbol font such as Symbol, Wingdings, Webdings, etc.). When you have the symbol, selected, click Shortcut Key... to open the Customize Keyboard dialog. In the "Press new shortcut key" box, press the keys you want to use to generate the symbol and click Assign.

    Hi Stuart P,

We understand that you'd like to use a hotkey to insert a symbol.

In Windows, I am not sure if you can use just one key to insert a symbol unless your keyboard's software gives you that option.

But check out this thread, it shows you how to add a keyboard shortcut for a symbol --> https://answers.microsoft.com/thread/7ed72f47-483a-4025-8eca-e8f78d403f75

We'll be here for your response. - Amit
