How can I disable Microsoft Autoupdate on Mac OSX

I have looked at other answers to this question but there were written by bots and clearly incorrect. The response provided by Microsoft was to set the AutoUpate to Manual - there is no option to do this on the Mac version of AutoUpdate. The other option was to disable notifications from Microsoft Daemon in the system preference - again no such option exists. I tried to delete the files from my computer resulting in the AutoUpdate still somehow trying to load something and preventing my computers mouse from clicking will also not showing any image to click or program to close. This forced me to download the AutoUpdater again just to get my computer working.

I would like a straight forward solution to disabling all notification from Microsoft products on my personal Mac computer. They are an unwanted distraction on a machine I primarily use for personal use and occasionally need Microsoft for office work. This AutoUpdater app is broken by design. Put in an option to disable all notifications.

    Didn't work

    error message "operation not permitted" (even with sudo)

    Clearly Microsoft has not changed:

    1. software that is designed to maximize annoyance to users
    2. support that is useless

    The last good version of Office was 2003.

    I have been using libreoffice since then with excellent result.

    I was just checking if Microsoft had improved in the recent years.

    Clearly it hasn't.

    Will return to libreoffice

    Microsoft = 100% annoying marketting and 0% friendliness or useful products

    Here you go step by step for those of us who are not very computer saavy:

    On your MAC -

    1. Go to FINDER;
    2. At the top of the FINDER PAGE, You'll see: "Finder, File, Edit, View, Go, Window, Help. Click on "GO";
    3. Under "GO" click on "Computer";
    4. Under "Computer" click on "Library";
    5. Click on "MacIntosh HD";
    6. Click on "Library";
    7. Click on (2nd file) called "Application Support";
    8. Click on "Microsoft";
    9. Look for the "MSU" folder (Microsoft Auto Update) folder;
    10. Click on"MSU" Folder and move it to TRASH (the lower right of your MAC & looks like a Trash Can. You can click and drag it to the TRASH.

    When in TRASH, delete it.

    It solved the problem 100%.

    I hope this helps for those of you who are not pro's. We can do it too, just like we can follow a recipe to bake a cake,

    we can get rid of the annoying Microsoft Auto Update error. I just got rid of all my Microsoft stuff. Done with them.

    Best to all of you!

    Dear Annoyed,

    Some users tried the following ways to disable it. I suggest you try them if you haven't tried them to see and tell us the result.

    1. Open Terminal>type cd /Library/Application\ Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0>sudo chmod 000 Microsoft\ AutoUpdate.app and the password.
    2. Go to the folder>/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0  and remove it.

    If the issue persists after trying the ways above, welcome to post back at your convenience and we'll try to help you further.

    Thanks for your effort and time.

    Sincerely

    I was able to do it by going to Library --> Application Support --> Microsoft --> MAU2.0 and then running the AutoUpdate app. There's a box to turn it off.

    Tried to upload a screenshot for you but of course it doesn't work, LOL.
