Some Excel Links Not Working

I have an excel workbook that is uploaded to a SharePoint site. The first sheet of the workbook is a “Table of Contents” with links in each cell to another sheet (this sheet is also protected from edits). Prior to today, the links all worked perfectly. Today, only a few of the links do not work and instead of a hand/pointer cursor we are shown a “fat” plus sign when hovering. Again, this is only on some cells with links. Right-click open hyperlink does work.

I’ve tried deleting the row, adding a new row, and manually typing and readding the link, no luck. I’ve tried right-click, edit hyperlink and redoing the link. No luck. I’ve tried the Advanced Options and Link Handling, Open supported hyperlinks to Office files in Office desktop apps. No luck. I’ve also tried unprotecting and reuploading to SharePoint but the problem persists in and out of SharePoint on the workbook.

The 'Links' has turned into 'workbook links' and trying to change the source file fails. If you change the source to the correct file, the link to the old file stays. It also produces an error message. The only way of changing it is to copy/paste-link in every place.

    Morning Snow,

I am here as I too have the same issue. I am using Office 365. My spreadsheet has many embedded hyperlinks (to Word documents within the suite, all of which are within my account). However, some of these work, but many do not. This has only started to happen since this Monday, previously there were no issues at all. All hyperlinks include the prefix https://.

To add to this, my colleague has a similar problem earlier this week, however, one colleague was able to click on the links, and another could too if they opened the spreadsheet within the native Excel application.

There appears to be yet another bug with 365. These seem to appear from nowhere, for example, last week, my date formats changed to US (I am in the UK and I am sure you can image how problematic this was), then on investigating, it seems 365 had changed the regional format without my asking. I have now set this to the correct format without issue.

Double click the link then Press Enter. It will change the “fat” plus sign to hand/pointer cursor.

It could be Excel haven't recognized it as a Hyperlink. The previous action will force Excel to recognize it again.

If issue persist, you may need to include the "https://" prefix before the link. Excel requires this prefix to recognize a link as a hyperlink.
