I am suddenly getting this message on my laptop when I attempt to open Excel. It eventually errors out (Unable to start). I have Microsoft 365 installed. I use it several times each week and it has been working fine up to now. Any ideas?

Hello Dr. K! I'm Gunasekar and I'd be happy to help you with your question.

I understand that you are experiencing issues when running the Office applications on your Windows Operating system. This particular error "Updating Microsoft 365 and Office, please wait a moment " (or) "Unable to start" message appears when the updates for Office applications are interrupted.

In this situation, you could try repairing the Office applications from the app settings and check if it helps.

    A. Click Start and select Settings. B. Click Apps and Features. C. Find Microsoft Office 365 in the lists, and click three dots next to it. D. select Modify. E. Perform an Online repair.

When it is done, restart your PC and open the Office applications again.

I also got this error message, when trying to launch from the taskbar. However, when I went into file explore and tried to open a file instead, the office programs loaded without issue. This happened to me just after an update. Before it, I could sleep my laptop for a few hours, then wake it up and continue where I was before. After the update, windows would close my office files upon waking and then display this error when I tried to relaunch office programs. Why should we pay subscription for glitchy programs?
