Excellent. Thank you.

I am using Visio Professional 2016. Rather than give any more time to this, I have decided to avoid the template and just start from scratch. But thank you again for the help and information.

I believe I've answered this below for the latest version of Visio. I was looking for this answer and thought I found it. But "starting from scratch" doesn't really answer this question. I was determined to figure this out, because the dependency diagram I was building was getting pretty tight and there was NO WAY I was starting over.

Go to File->Options (the Options tab is at the bottom left of the File Menu).

Select the Advanced tab and uncheck the "Enable connector splitting" and "Enable AutoConnect".

Now you will be able to move shapes freely without any of the connections splitting.

This didn't work for me. It renders the "Walls, Doors and Windows" shapes useless as I can't have 45 degree walls etc

I know this is an old one, but I came across the same issue where the above workarounds did not work for the Org Chart, I found the chart has additional options for minimum spacing between elements under the Org Chart ribbon item, click the more options Arrange box, under Change Spacing, click Custom, then Values.

Even disabling Snap/Glue/Connector Splitting/Move other shapes away on drop/Auto Connect - whenever Org shapes got to close, they would auto connect and push the shapes away. General spacing does not reflect for the objects, needs to be done under the Org Chart ribbon.

Welcome to Q&A forum!

Please back up the Visio file first, then open it.
Go to File>Options to clear the Enable AutoConnect checkbox. For more information, you could refer to Add connectors between Visio shapes.
Then go to View, click on dialog launcher of Visual Aids.
On the General tab, clear the Snap and Glue checkboxes.
Close and re-open the file to check this issue.

Which version of Visio are you using? Please update it to the latest verison first.

Does all visio files have this issue or only specific files have the issue? Please create a new Visio file to check this issue.

Do other shapes have this problem? Please try adding other shapes to have a check.

Before doing all that, could you confirm with me that you do not observe this behavior on Visio on your machine using the Organizational Chart template? That might save us both some time.

Thanks for your reply and reminder. I'm sorry I missed a very important information.
I tested it in Visio 2019 using the Organization Chart template.
I found that there must be a certain distance between the two shapes, unable to close to each other.
Otherwise, the above-mentioned problems will occur.

According to my research, this is the default design of the Organization Chart template.

Go to the design tab of the ribbon, then open the dialog for "page setup" on the "layout and routing" tab, uncheck "Enable Connector splitting".
