Accidentally clicked "Dont notify me about default conversions in .csv or similar files" And need to turn the pop-up back on.

When opening a CSV with scientific formulas I received the standard popup asking "Do you want to permanently keep these conversions" and I cliked the Dont notify me about default conversions.

Now when I open aCSV with scientific conversiosn I no longer get the pop-up. I would like to turn this back on.

I found one soluiton suggesting I go to the registry location HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\excel\options find the option for CsvLoadDisplayNumberConversionDialog and change it from 0 to 1 however this entry is not in my registry.

I tried creating it myself and setting it to 1 but that did not work.

Does anyone have any other suggestions that could help?

Thanks

Steve

Do you not have this option?

    Hi

For some reason this section is not visible on this end point. I can see it on another end point that I am using to compare but on the one with the issue the option is not there. Is there a way to bring this back? Maybe this is related to the registry entry? Or maybe I need to reinstall?

    Hi Steven,

I couldn't find this entry on my side either. Although this method didn't work, you could try deleting the Options folder in the registry editor (go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\excel). This will reset all Excel settings. You can then check again.

Also, before deleting the option folder, I recommend you back up the registry first.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Edit at your own risk.

If the above suggestion doesn't help, first, please restore the registry. After that, could you please share a test CSV file with us? You can upload the file to any online drive, like OneDrive, and then post the share link in your reply.

We look forward to your response. Thanks for your cooperation.

    Hi,

I did try deleting the options folder but that didnt seem to work. I then tried deleting the Excel folder entirley so when I started Excel it would run as if first time. This did run as first time but still hasnt created that entry I am looking for.

I have actually found that entry on another end point. I checked and both end points are using the same version fo excel, so its odd that it is not on this machine. I tested the solution by selectig the "Do not notify in future" option on that pop up, then went in to the registry changed that entry to "1" and the pop-up returned so it is a good solution, just it only works if the entry is there.

I could try uninstalling office entirley and redeploying to see if that solves it unless there are any other ideas on how to bring the pop-up back?

    Thanks
